- Te Hiku
- Tāmaki Makaurau
- Hauraki
- Taranaki
- Taupō
- Ruapehu
- Heretaunga
- Te Ūpoko o te Ika
If you are located in a region not listed above but you are still interested in this programme delivery, we would still be interested to hear from you.
The Background
Para Kore is part of a national Ministry for the Environment project to reduce food waste, with the focus of Para Kore within Māori settings under the project ‘Hei aha te Moumou Kai’. As part of this project, we have developed a new programme, ‘He Mana tō te Kai‘, for whānau Māori, which aims to reduce food waste, whilst restoring connection to kai, through participants’ daily, lived relationship with Atua.
The first trial took place nearly one year ago, after which we went through the pilot stage, and since June of this year, we have been rolling out delivery in more rohe.
The programme is delivered through four wānanga, each being approximately 2 hours (over two to four weeks) to support participants to achieve a 50% reduction in food waste and an increase in behaviours to continue reducing food waste. We ask whānau to track their waste as part of the programme and complete a registration form and post-survey to capture impact data.
The Four Wānanga:
- Wānanga One: Whakapapa–Looking at our kai as Māori in relation to Atua and our environment
- Wānanga Two: Māramatanga–What our traditional kai systems and practices were, how and why they have changed and where we are now
- Wānanga Three: Kaitiakitanga–What we can do as whāna to value kai and waste less
- Wānanga Four: Manaakitanga–Sharing learnings and making a plan moving forward through the restoration of communal relationships.
Role summary:
Para Kore is keen to contract suitable individuals or entities to deliver programmes over the upcoming 1.5 years. This would likely look like one programme per quarter, with each programme taking 20 hours (approx). All training and resources would be provided and payment would be made for each programme post-delivery with submission of all data (details provided to those shortlisted).
A number of whānau who have taken part to date have been keen to carry on with complimentary wānanga around kai, composting, etc., so incorporating this programme as part of that mahi would work well.
Para Kore would like to hear from anyone interested in the delivery of He Mana tō te Kai. Please complete the expression of interest form by 31 January 2025.
