Reusable Nappies for Pēpi, Papatūānuku, Pūtea

Kope Tautaiao

The new future we want to create for our whānau

When we think back to what our tupuna did, their practices promoted the hauora of our pēpi and taiao. Nowadays, we have this normalised world of disposable nappies. The issues these are creating are massive. Let’s go back to a world that aligns with our ancestors

Who is this wānanga for?

  • Whare Kōhungahunga – Kōhanga Reo, Puna Reo
  • Hapori – hapū wānanga, social and health services
  • Marae – hapū and whānau
  • Essentially this wānanga is for all whānau with pēpi and tamariki wearing kope

Why we need to make the switch to reusable nappies

  • Disposable nappies are a serious problem in our landfills
  • They are creating greenhouse gases and leaching toxins into our taiao
  • Reusable nappies are made of materials safer for the tinana of our pēpi

This kaupapa isn’t just about nappies,  it’s about reclaiming mana motuhake in how we care for our pēpi and our taiao.

Tips and tricks that make kope tautaiao use easy in real life

From Disposable Habits to Conscious Care

We know disposables are often seen as the easier option. But they come at a long-term cost — to our pūtea, our landfills, and our mokopuna’s future.

This wānanga helps break down the barriers and whakamā, showing how even small changes can have a lasting impact. With the right support, kope tautaiao are not only easy — they’re an act of aroha for generations to come.
